The story
A short spur north of La Verkin, Toquerville is the quiet, historic heart of the corridor. It's named for Toquer, a Southern Paiute leader whose band met the first mid-1800s settlers with a friendly welcome. Log cabins went up along Ash Creek in 1858, and the town grew into orchards, vineyards, and the first cotton gin in the Utah territory.
Today it's around 1,500 people and a lot of preserved small-town character. Up the rough road north of town, Toquerville Falls drops over red rock into pools you can dip in — best reached by high-clearance or off-road vehicle.
