The story

La Verkin sits on the north bank of the Virgin River, right across from Hurricane, at the junction where SR-17 meets SR-9 — the road that carries you east to Zion. It calls itself "The Beautiful Valley," a nod to the fertile bench that early settlers irrigated into orchards.

Just south of town, the Virgin River and La Verkin Creek meet in a narrow lava canyon. The same canyon holds Pah Tempe (La Verkin) Hot Springs, long regarded as a healing place, though the springs are currently closed to the public. The bridge crossing that canyon had a brief brush with fame: it appears in the James Bond film Octopussy, where a plane is flown beneath it.
