The story
Rockville is the last quiet breath before Springdale's bustle — a tiny, tree-shaded town of old pioneer homes just west of the Zion entrance. Its claim to fame sits across the river: Grafton, an abandoned 1859 frontier settlement that's one of the West's most photographed ghost towns and has appeared in several films.
Crossing the historic 1924 Rockville Bridge starts the Smithsonian Butte Scenic Backway, a dirt route with big views for those with the right vehicle.
